Van Gisbergen wins all three in hard Aussie Racing Car battles at Highlands

Bathurst legend Shane van Gisbergen has made a faultless start in his Aussie Racing Cars debut, winning all three races in the final round of the 2023 Battery World Aussie Racing Cars Super Series at Highlands Motorsport Park in New Zealand.

After claiming pole position yesterday, van Gisbergen won an interrupted opening race after the initial start was red flagged due to a start-line incident. 

“It’s been really good. I was quick in qualifying, but I wasn’t sure how I was going to go in the races,” said van Gisbergen. “In the first race we were good, I couldn’t break the tow, and the other guys have gotten quicker and have learned the track. 

The second race saw van Gisbergen lead from start to finish, pressured all the way by Cody Brewczynski and Josh Anderson.

“The front three now have restrictors, so we are equally as slow as each other. It made it harder to come back through the field in the reverse grid race against the guys with no restrictors. I think it all works out pretty well. All the fast guys are coming together at the front and tomorrow is going to be tougher.”
