The Otago Sports Car Club anticipate some great action at the Supercharge Batteries Circle Hill Rally Sprint this Saturday (4 July). Now in its eighth year, the event comprises approximately 7.2 kms of Otago rally’s world renown roads, just 20 minutes south of Dunedin.
It begins with a very fast open few kilometres before it starts to get a bit more technical after the SuperCharge Batteries Junction. ‘Shed Corner’ has claimed a few cars over the years and leads into a windy downhill section before the fast finish which has also claimed a couple cars.
The sprint tests even the best drivers and appears to be a bit of an equalizer with 2WDs often featuring right at the sharp end of the field and some B Class cars having some very impressive overall results.
Last year saw Dunedin’s Emma Gilmour and Andrew Graves fighting for the win with just 0.6 of a second separating them at the end of the event. Gilmour won’t be competing in her Suzuki Swift AP4 car this time. With ‘Emmms’ currently in the North Island, Gilmour will share David Kirks Ford Fiesta.
Down through the classes saw Regan Ross taking C class ahead of Mike Verdoner.
B class was dominated with an impressive drive which also placed him an incredible 4th overall was Dean Johnston of Christchurch.
A class was also dominated by another Cantabrian Tim Smith who we look forward to returning this year with a 1600 now bolted into his Starlet.
