Class titles decided at Ashley Forest Rallysprint

International rally driver Hayden Paddon posted his fourth iconic Ashley Forest Rallysprint title last weekend and beating home Neil Webb (Mitsubishi Mirage).

The fifty-seven car field experienced challenging conditions over the two days with spring like north-west wind conditions prevailing.

Electing to drive his Hyundai 120 AP4 as opposed to the Hyundai Konic EV in the final runs, Paddon broke his own course record in comfortably heading off Blenheim’s Neil Webb driving his 2.4 litre turbo charged Mitsubishi Mirage.

In doing so Paddon’s eclipsed his own record by .77 second around the 1.7 kilometre gravel course, with a 52 second even lap. Webb’s time was 55.63.

2017 winner and runner up to Paddon in 2022, Sloan Cox (Mitsubishi Evo Special) failed to make the final 32 cut-off after clipping the bank and damaging the rear body work. The damage prevented further participation.

National rally championship entrant, Ari Pettigrew with his Barina AP4 was rewarded for a consistent weekend finishing third. His time in the final four was 57.65, beating home Dave Quantock, Skoda AP4.

First home in the 0-1300cc calss was Paul Roughan (Toyota Starlet) – 1:10.85, ahead of Chris Herdman (Toyota Starlet) 1:11.48.

The 1301-1600cc title was won by Kerry Sloan (Toyota Starlet) 1:08.72 ahead of Tim McDonald (Toyota Corolla) 1:10.68.

Stewart Reid (Mazda RX7) won the Classic 2wd (1:05.59) with Tim McIver (Ford Escort Mk2) second (1:09.79).

Chris Hey (Toyota MR2) won the Unlimited 2wd Class and finished 13th overall

In the Unlimited 2wd category, the win went to Chris Hey (Toyota MR2) – 1:04.11, ahead of Glenn Alcorn (Ford Escort RS2000) – 1:06.72.

Phil Campbell (Ford Fiesta AP4) was first home in the Rally 4WD while David Quantock (Skoda Fabia) won the Unlimited 4WD.

In the Cross Car category Matt Penrose (00:59.95) beat home Jarrod Owens (1:01.64).
