Multiple WRC rally winner Kris Meeke will return to Dunedin in 2026 for the 50th anniversary Central Machine Hire Otago Rally.
The Northern Irish star will once again pilot the famous Rossendale Ford Escort Mk2, marking his third Otago appearance, which takes place from April 10-12.
Meeke claimed victory in the Otago Classic Rally in 2024, before a puncture in 2025 denied him the chance to repeat the win.
His return for the milestone edition sets up a thrilling battle against another Otago Rally legend — Finland’s Pasi Hagström, who will drive the Central Machine Hire Porsche 911.
Remarkably, Meeke was the last European driver to win the Classic Rally, while Hagström was the first, taking the title in 2006.
“Otago Rally is rally drivers’ heaven,” an excited Meeke said. “The quality of the roads, the other competitors and the glorious setting in Dunedin and Otago all combine to make it a standout event.
“I can’t wait to come back and drive the Rossendale Escort. To be invited back for their 50th anniversary event is an honour.”

Event spokesperson Roger Oakley said Meeke’s return is the perfect way to celebrate five decades of rallying excellence.
“We’re delighted that Kris has agreed to come back again and treat us to his spectacular driving,” Oakley said.
“He’s hugely popular with the spectators and drivers, and such a great ambassador for the sport.”
The 2026 event will feature 280 kilometres of competitive stages over 15 fast and flowing tests, using the world-renowned gravel roads of Dunedin and Otago.
The Otago Rally proudly holds the title of New Zealand’s longest continuously running rally, and organisers have promised more exciting announcements in the lead-up to the golden anniversary celebration.
