Moser-Rust quickest at Duvauchelle’s Hillclimb

Perfect conditions made for a very close competition for the RATEC Motorsport club running the 2021 Duvauchelle’s Hillclimb on Banks Peninsular last weekend. With 34 competitors and one CrossCar taking part, it was winner, Stefan Moser-Rust (Mitsubishi Lancer EVO 5), cracked the 1 minute 30 with a time of 1:29.7.

Stefan Moser-Rust (Mitsubishi Lancer EVO 5) – winner.

Mark Higgins (Mitsubishi Lancer EVO 3) took second on 1:30.46 and in third Stuart Carter (Toyota Starlet) with 1:30.53.

Autosport’s Sean Haggarty was fourht in his Subaru Impreza rally car (1:31.8) and also picked up sixth with his CrossCar (1:35.96).

It was great to see some amazing classics such as the ex Brian Stokes Escort Cosworth(see main picture) in the hands of Phil Mauger, Lindsay O’Donnell in the ’54 Austin Healey Corvette, a ‘65 Mkll Jaguar, a Vauxhall Chevette and ’55 Jaguar XK140.

Points in the 2021 Canterbury Interclub Series were also close. Ratec banked 73-points to Autosport’s 62. The Canterbury Car Club have had their lead reduced to 113-points and with two events remaining there is a chance that one of three clubs could still win the Dave McCahon Canterbury Interclub Trophy for 2021.

Sadly, the Autosport grass Autocross on September 26th was cancelled and hopefully a new venue and date will be found. The Ashburton Car Club Le Bretons Rd gravel sprint is next to be held 21 November.
