Otago Rally – the first 50 years

A limited edition book detailing the first 50 years of the Otago Rally can be pre-ordered now.

The book covers the first 50 years of the Otago Rally ahead of the event’s celebratory event in April 2026.

Written by RallySport Magazine’s Peter Whitten and well-known New Zealand motoring journalist David Thomson, the book is currently in pre-production, with a release date set for the early part of 2026.

The Otago Rally began in 1976 and has become one of New Zealand’s top rallies.

It is a round of the New Zealand Rally Championship, while the Classic Rally has attracted the likes of Ari Vatanen, Michele Mouton and Jimmy McRae to its shores, all of which is covered in the book.

A large catalogue of photos will be used to illustrate the book, with images from some of the best photographers from around the world.

The book will be available in both hardcover and softcover versions, with a special souvenir Limited Edition also available via pre-order.

The 240-page book will feature coverage from all 50 years of the Otago Rally, including artefacts and images not previously seen.

Results from all 50 years of the Otago Rally will also be included.

Available in both hardcover and softcover versions, the book will also be sold as a special souvenir boxed Limited Edition version (200 copies only).

All pre-orders for the book will be made only via the RallySport Magazine online store, with delivery expected in March 2026.
