I’ve always wondered how Nick Cassidy would fare if he joined the NTT IndyCar Series. Like Alex Palou, he has plenty of single seater experience, Unlike Palou, Cassidy found plenty of success throughout the junior Formula categories, whereas Palou never won until he got to America.
Born in Spain, Alex Palou found plenty of success throughout his ten years of kartsport before embarking on his single seater journey. Initially he was quite successful finishing third in the 2014 Euroformula Open Championship as well as achieving runner up in the 2014 Spanish F3 Championship.
GP3 beckoned and two seasons brought mixed success in 2015 and 2016. He finished third in the 2017 Japanese Formula 3 Championship while also making appearances in both the World Series Formula V8 3.5 and the FIA F2 Championship.
Again he finished on the podium in Japan, this time in Super Formula the year that Cassidy won the title in 2019.

He moved to the US and a rookie IndyCar campaign in 2020 with Dale Coyne Racing finishing 16th before signing with Chip Ganassi Racing where he instantly found success earning his maiden IndyCar Series victory in the season-opening race at Barber Motorsports Park.
He won the 2021 season, repeated this in 2023 and again in 2024. Having won five of the six races this season, including his first win over the weekend at the Indy 500, you’d now put your money on him to win again this season.
It’s quite remarkable the success he has found in America given his journey to get there. After his success in Japan, Cassidy moved back to Europe and has eventually chosen to compete in Formula E. It does leave us wondering how he would go in the US? I think he would go quite well.
