The FIA Formula 3 Championship is set for its fourth round of 2019 at Silverstone, and Marcus Armstrong and his PREMA Racing are definitely looking forward to such a historical and exciting venue. The iconic British racetrack, which received massive upgrades throughout the years, will provide the team with a good chance to fight back to winning ways after a tough outing at Red Bull Ring.
While the trio consisting of championship leader Robert Shwartzman, Marcus Armstrong and Jehan Daruvala showed great potential and brought home four wins from the start of the season, unexpected circumstances hit their ambitions in Austria. Nonetheless, the team brought home three podium finishes to maximize the points. The Russian is still holding the overall lead, and the team carries a hefty advantage in its classification.
Aiming to carry on a positive tradition at Silverstone, PREMA Racing is bracing for a highly-competitive round. According to the forecasts, rain should not be part of the equation, but there will be plenty of room for more variables and unpredictability.
“We are lining up at Silverstone determined to remain in full contention for the leading role,” commented René Rosin – Team Principal. “We must stay focused on putting everything together and keeping our concentration throughout the whole weekend. Our driver line-up is impressive and highly-competitive, and we fully rely on our resident talent to defend and possibly improve our championship position.”
No doubt there will have been some tough conversations within the PREMA paddock following the collision between Shwartzman and Marcus Armstrong in Austria, but the Russian’s post-race comments show the team’s willingness to let them race.
The duo will be determined to right any wrongs from that showing and return their team to the tip of the podium in Great Britain.
Silverstone is the oldest and most attended race weekend on the calendar, but will play host to the FIA Formula 3 Championship for the first time this weekend. F1, F2 and F3 races are all heavily attended by the British fans, who will be keen to cast their eye over motorsport’s brightest young talent.
Those lucky enough to be there can expect plenty of action in F3: the track’s wide berth allows for overtaking opportunities throughout the field, with number of high-speed, high-octane corners. The combination of turns leading towards Hanger Straight will favour those able to get the maximum speed out of their machines and allow for plenty of manoeuvring.
The first turn at Abbey will provide for an entertaining start to the races as drivers battle with the combination of hitting top speed and breaking in time to round it successfully.
