Cassidy happy with third in SA Formula E round

Kiwi Nick Cassidy has come away with a podium after António Félix da Costa won the first-ever ABB FIA Formula E World Championship race in Cape Town, South Africa. Jean-Éric Vergne finished second with Cassidy in third on a track delivering the fastest lap in Formula E history.

“I think pace comes down to how much energy you have really,” commented Cassidy. “I think we have got to be happy with today, whenever you finish third in Formula E that has got to be a good day. We have been strong and I am going to walk away with a smile.

“A part of me feels we should have won that race, we had a few issues we were battling with – the full course yellow really hurt us as well. It was a bit of a luck of the draw how it changed the energy in the race, but that’s motorsport so you’ve got to me happy with that.”

Pascal Wehrlein still leads the Drivers’ World Championship with 80 points to Jake Dennis’ 62. Vergne jumps to 50 points in third with da Costa now into fourth on 46. Cassidy sits in fifth on 43-points while fellow Kiwi Mitch Evans, who finished in 11th, is 12th (14-points).

Porsche head Cassidy’s Envision Racing team, 126 points to 84 in the Teams’ running.
