While the celebrations continue around Helio Castroneves winning the Indianapolis 500 for the fourth time, a reality for competitors in the 2021 NTT IndyCar Series is that the ‘500’ was worth double the usual number of series points and this has created a shake-up to the current standings.

Scott Dixon went into the race leading but finished 17th, so has now dropped down to second position.  Alex Palo, who finished second to Casroneves, has moved into the lead, a healthy 36-points ahead of Dixon, with just ten races remaining.

Pato O’Ward’s fourth place now sees him just one-point behind Dixon with Simon Pagenaud, who finished third, jumping three positions from seventh to fourth.

The next round is a double-header at Detroit before heading to Road America.

NTT INDYCAR SERIES point standings:

1/ Palou 248,
2/ Dixon 212,
3/ O’Ward 211,
4/ Pagenaud 201,
5/ VeeKay 191,
6/ Newgarden 184,
7/ Herta 154,
8/ Rahal 148,
9/ McLaughlin 143,
10/ Ericsson 138.
