Let’s face it, Scott Dixon was always going to re-sign with Chip Ganassi Racing and anything else was just pure speculation.
Chip Ganassi Racing announced on Tuesday that it had signed the four-time IndyCar champion to a multiyear contract extension to continue driving for the championship-winning team in the Verizon IndyCar Series for 2019 and beyond.
There had been considerable speculation linking Dixon with several other teams for a one year deal in 2019.
Why would Dixon, who had been with Ganassi since 2002, won all but one of his 44 IndyCar victories including his 2008 Indianapolis 500 win, want to move to another team.
Dixon has said, “I have a long history with Chip, and I respect him for what he does and what he’s done for me and the team and what we’ve achieved together.” And that about sums it up.
Lucky (for the media) it was resolved before F1 driver Fernando Alonso announced his departure from Formula One at the end of 2018. Now the rumour-mill can head back to F1 and speculate on his replacement and their replacement and…….
