Formula Open are pleased to announce The Fitness Portal as the naming rights sponsor for the final round to be held at Hampton Downs on Saturday May 28th. The Fitness Portal provide online training programmes for those that want the best chance of achieving their goals. With The Fitness Portal onboard the round will now be fully videoed to be released on various social media platforms to promote the growing class.
After three rounds James Watson is leading the series overall with his Swift DB4 Formula Atlantic from Tom Alexander in the Blackbull Markets sponsored Tatuus FT50 TRS in second place. This finale should be a cracker especially since the racing this season has been truly intense between the older Formula Atlantics and the newer FT40 and FT50 ex-TRS cars.
This final round looks set to lift that intensity to another level with former TRS series runner up Sam MacNeill moving out of an FT40 into the faster FT50 adding some more excitement at the pointy end.
Another car joining the grid for the finale is the FT50 driven by Richard Crabb. Also hoping to make his mark in the final is Swift DB4 racer Gary Rush. Gary has had a horrendous season to date with engine maladies at every round so with a brand-new engine for the final, he will be a man to watch.
With more cars joining all the time the series has grown into the next big thing in New Zealand Motorsport. It is both a case of people bringing cars out of garages and also cars being purchased specifically to race in Formula Open New Zealand.
Recently we have had another Swift DB4 Formula Atlantic imported from America and a Reynard 93H Formula Atlantic recently purchased from Canada. Add to that there have been two more FT40’s recently purchased and another FT50 purchased for a top Formula Ford driver the grid is going to swell to 20 cars for next season.
