Back in 2008, newly crowned IndyCar Series and Indianapolis 500 winner Scott Dixon returned home for a number of promotions. One in particular was to support Repco NZ and a CanTeen promotion for supporting 13-24 year-olds living with cancer.
The aim was to sell Scott Dixon designed bandannas in October in all 80 Repco stores throughout the country to raise money for CanTeen.
A promotional media conference was staged on the Auckland Waterfront which saw 33 karts (the number of Indy 500 cars on the start grid) making an entrance with Dixon in pole position.

Included in that field was a very young Mitch Evans, now a current Jaguar Formula E driver.
Dixon said, at that time, “I have been very fortunate to be able to pursue a career in a sport that I am passionate about and the success I have enjoyed this year off and on the track makes me appreciate how lucky I have been. The reality though is that there are many young people who face a much tougher battle with cancer. If through my association with Repco we can help raise funds together for CanTeen, then that’s fantastic.”
