Austrian Lucas Auer finished sixth overall on his debut in the 2012 Toyota Racing Series with Giles Motorsport. It was an average series for the teenager with two poles and two podiums.
He returned a year later and this time proved much quicker winning two races, getting pole three times, finishing on the podium six times and finishing third overall.
Two full seasons in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship (2013 and 2014) twice netted him fourth place overall but then his single seater career seemed to stall.
He has since spent the last four years campaigning in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM).
Now he is set to return to single seaters and has recently tested in the Japanese Super Formula rookie test alongside Brit Dan Ticktum. He has also been picked up by the Red Bull Junior Team and is likely to compete in the 2019 Super Formula Series with B-Max Racing Team.
Clearly he is being groomed again for single seater racing and potentially Formula One as Red Bull continue to scramble for a greater pool of drivers. Don’t be surprised to see him line up on the 2019 Toyota Racing grid in January alongside Dan Ticktum as he prepares for Super Formula where he will be competing with the winner of both the 2012 and 2013 TRS, Nick Cassidy.
