Christchurch teenager Izaak Fletcher continued to build experience and consistency in Round 2 of the 2025/26 Yokohama South Island Formula Ford Championship, held at the Euromarque Motorsport Park in Christchurch.
Having qualified seventh, Fletcher and went on to deliver steady, well-managed performances across all four races, despite the team battling ongoing car issues throughout the weekend.
“It wasn’t our best weekend, and we were definitely dealing with some car issues, but we still made the most of it,” Fletcher said. “Finishing fourth in the Wigram Cup was a nice way to end the round. We’ll work on the car and aim to come back stronger for the next event.”

In the opening Race 1, Fletcher made progress to finish sixth, settling into a solid rhythm while Race 2 saw him move forward again, securing a fifth-place finish.
Mechanical challenges became more noticeable in Race 3, where car issues affected performance and resulted in a seventh-place finish.
Despite this, Fletcher and the team pushed on and reset for the final race.
The prestigious Wigram Cup (Race 4) provided plenty of action, with Fletcher navigating an eventful race to claim fourth, his best result of the round. The drive showed strong racecraft and determination even without peak pace.
Reflecting on the weekend, Fletcher said it was “promising overall”, especially considering the hurdles.
Now in his third season of Formula Ford racing, Fletcher continues to develop his racecraft while working closely with the team to improve the car and push for stronger results.
The South Island Formula Ford Championship continues this weekend with the third round at Teretonga Park in Invercargill.
