Will Brown has marked his 150th Supercars start with victory in Race 24 of the Century Batteries Ipswich Super 440, inheriting the win after teammate Broc Feeney was penalised for a false start.
The Red Bull Ampol Racing pair were the class of the field, with Brown shadowing Feeney through the opening stint before a five-second penalty for Feeney dropped him behind after the pit stops.
Brown crossed the line 0.8842s ahead of his teammate, securing his first win since Melbourne in March, with rookie Ryan Wood taking his second consecutive podium.
Feeney now holds a 232-point Repco Supercars’ CHampionship lead over Brown heading into tomorrow’s final race of the Century Batteries Ipswich Super440, and the final race of the Repco Sprint Cup – which has now been sealed by Feeney.
Feeney can claim a $50,000 prize if he claims pole position tomorrow and seals the Boost Mobile Pole Position Award for 2025.
“It’s great to finally get a win — it’s been a fair while,” Brown said.
“Unfortunately Broc got a jump start, but I’ll take it. Stoked for our side of the garage and the whole team. The cars were super fast, and we were able to work with our strategy.
“Broc’s been tough to beat this year, so I wasn’t going to let him past.”
The race was punctuated by drama from the start, with Feeney creeping forward as the lights went out and chaos erupting behind. Jaxon Evans and Jack Le Brocq were eliminated in a first-corner pile-up, Aaron Cameron was stranded in the gravel, and Brodie Kostecki was forced to the garage with damage.
Contact involving Matt Payne, Thomas Randle and Cooper Murray saw Murray’s car briefly airborne before being collected by Cameron. Several cars sustained significant damage, with Randle and Murray also heading to pit lane for checks.
The race resumed on lap 4, with Feeney pushing hard despite his pending penalty, setting the fastest lap on lap 9 and building a lead of nearly two seconds before pitting. Brown stopped later, emerging ahead of Feeney to control the race to the flag.
Further back, Wood held firm in third despite pressure from Anton De Pasquale and Cam Waters. Bryce Fullwood’s strong charge from 24th on the grid eventually faded to 11th, while wildcards Zach Bates and Cameron Crick finished 17th and 21st respectively.
Tomorrow’s action kicks off with a two-part qualifying session at 10:20am AEST, which will be followed by the Boost Mobile Top Ten Shootout at 11:40am.
Race 25, a 63 lap slog at Queensland Raceway begins at 3:15pm tomorrow.
