Feeney holds off teammate for Sunday Townsville triumph

Red Bull’s Broc Feeney has gone back-to-back on the streets of Townsville, holding off teammate Will Brown to take his second win in as many days at the NTI Townsville 500.

Brown made a late charge to try and overhaul the current championship leader, but faded in the closing laps as Feeney danced away to a three-second victory after 200-kilometres of racing, with two-time Bathurst 1000 winner Chaz Mostert in third.

”I’m absolutely chuffed to walk away with the win there, it’s awesome, that one means a lot,” said Feeney. “Awesome result for the team with the 1-2, but for me chuffed with this weekend. The turnaround has been fantastic and can’t wait to get to Queensland Raceway.”

Cam Waters used strategy to lead in the early stages of the race but was unable to sustain his advantage, eventually finishing fourth ahead of Kiwi Matt Payne rounding out the top five.

Between Gold Coasters Feeney and Mostert, and Toowoomba’s Brown, the result marks an all-Queenslander podium in North Queensland.

It is Feeney’s 10th win of 2025, giving the 22-year old a 220-point advantage over Brown and putting him in the box seat to win the Sprint Cup next month in Ipswich and earn the first berth in the Supercars Finals series.

This year’s event, the 19th Supercars event in Townsville, welcomed a weekend crowd of 128,337, the largest attendance at the event since 2018.

PBR Australia’s Tasman Cup and Summernats Goes Troppo burnout demonstrations were among the most popular additions to the entertainment offering at North Queensland’s largest annual sporting event.

The Repco Supercars Championship next makes its long awaited return to Queensland Raceway at the Century Batteries Ipswich Super440, taking place August 8-10.

Next month’s event marks the first Supercars event at Queensland Raceway since 2019, with today’s podium drivers expected to be popular hometown heroes when action gets underway next month.
