Flawless Feeney fleeces field in Friday flyer

Red Bull’s Broc Feeney led a Chevrolet top seven in final practice at the Snowy River Caravans Tasmania Super 440, with title contenders scattered up and down the field.

As it was in Practice 1, Feeney was quickest of all, with PremiAir Racing driver Richie Stanaway denying Feeney’s teammate and defending Supercars’ Champion Will Brown, a Friday one-two for the Red Bull drivers.

Andre Heimgartner, Jack Le Brocq, Cooper Murray and Cameron Hill completed the all-Camaro top seven, with Penrite Racing rookie Kai Allen the lead Ford driver in eighth.

Feeney is a one time race winner in Tasmania and four time podium getter, with his last win in the Apple Isle coming in 2023.

Tickford Racing star Cam Waters was ninth ahead of Team 18’s Anton De Pasquale, with Taupō winner Matt Payne 15th, Brodie Kostecki 18th and Chaz Mostert 23rd.

Among a late flurry of times, it was Feeney who took over top spot, as Thomas Randle made a mistake at the hairpin.

Randle’s error was one of many in the session; Allen bowled a wide on the grass exiting Turn 7, before fellow rookie Murray was first to fall foul of the Turn 4 hairpin, running onto the escape road. Stanaway, meanwhile, cut across the Turn 1 run-off.

Brown leads Waters by 34 points in the Championship standings heading into tomorrow’s opening two races of the event.

Supercars action in Tasmania will resume on Saturday with back-to-back Boost Mobile Qualifying sessions from 9:05am AEST.

The Snowy River Caravans Tasmania Super440 takes place May 9-11 at Symmons Plains Raceway outside Launceston, and will be broadcast live on Foxtel, with live streaming available on Kayo.
