Holden look to Lowndes for victory at Hidden Valley

The Australian Supercar Championship is underway again this weekend at the Hidden Valley Raceway in Darwin. Scott McLaughlin (Ford) currently leads from fellow Kiwi Shane van Gisbergen (Holden) with Australian veteran Craig Lowndes (Holden) in third place.

Lowndes has been the quiet achiever this season, including his first win since 2016 when he took victory in the third race at Symmons Plains in Perth. Supercars have had races at Hidden Valley for the last 20 years and Lowndes is the most successful driver at the circuit with seven race wins.

Holden hasn’t won a race since Lowndes’ Perth win back in April. Shell V-Power Racing Fords (McLaughlin and Fabian Coulthard) have taken five wins, with Nissan Motorsport’s Rick Kelly winning at Winton. While Holden will look particularly to either Lowdnes or his two team mates van Gisbergen and 2017 champion Jamie Whincup, McLaughlin and Coulthard’s team are in form and will be hard to beat.

The 2.87km Darwin circuit is expected to suit the new ZB Holden Commodore, partially due to its long 1.1km main straight as it has performed well on similar high-speed circuits.
