Ryan Wood who took Boost Mobile Pole, his second of the year

As ever, Saturday morning’s qualifying was tightly contested, where 2023 Supercars champion Brodie Kostecki outlasted reigning Bathurst 1000 winning Kiwi Matt Payne, taking pole for today’s first race by 0.03 of a second.

Shortly thereafter, it was Wellington’s Ryan Wood who took Boost Mobile Pole, his second of the year.

The 22-year old will be joined by his close friend Payne on the front row for today’s second race.

There are two more 120-kilometre Supercars races today, at 12:45 p.m. and 4:10 p.m.

The driver who scores the most points across the Taupō and Christchurch events will be awarded the Jason Richards Memorial Trophy, named for beloved Kiwi driver Jason Richards who succumbed to cancer in 2011.

Heading into today, Wood leads all in the chase for the Jason Richards Memorial Trophy, with Kostecki 40 points behind.
