Ryan Wood sets pace; Chaz Mostert crashes in first Bathurst 1000 practice

Practice is underway at the 2025 Repco Bathurst 1000, with Kiwi Ryan Wood (No. 2 Mobil 1 Truck Assist Ford Mustang) leading the opening session of the event on Thursday as Mount Panorama claimed a high-profile first victim of this year’s event.

21-year old Wood topped the first 60-minute practice at the Mountain on Thursday afternoon as on-track action commenced in the lead up to Sunday’s running of the Great Race.

But the big drama came when two-time winner Chaz Mostert (No. 25 Mobil 1 Optus Ford Mustang) crashed on the uphill run through Turn 2 at Griffins Bend.

Ryan Wood topped the first 60-minute practice at the Mountain

Mostert bizarrely locked up his tyres under brakes heading into Griffins Bend, skidding into and making fairly heavy contact with the barrier and sustaining a decent amount of damage to his Ford Mustang.

Team 18’s Anton De Pasquale (No. 18 DeWalt Chevrolet Camaro) was second quickest to lead the way for Chevrolet, with rookie Kai Allen (No. 26 Penrite Ford Mustang) and teammate Matt Payne (No. 100 Penrite Ford Mustang).

Championship leader Broc Feeney rounded out the top five in the opening session of the weekend.

On-track action at the Repco Bathurst 100 resumes with Practice 2 at 4:50 p.m., another 60-minute session, this one reserved solely for co-drivers.
