Toowoomba’s Will Brown has labelled yesterday’s victory at Supercars’ Penrite Oil Sandown 500 the most exciting of his career, after he and Scott Pye won the 60th anniversary running of the Melbourne endurance race.
It was the ninth win in the 26-year old’s career and his first endurance race win, Brown holding off teammate Broc Feeney in the closing laps to secure Triple Eight Race Engineering’s record ninth Sandown 500 win.
The win was Adelaide-native Pye’s second career race win, having come to Triple Eight this year after an 11-year stint as a full-time driver.
After giving up ground in recent rounds to championship rival Chaz Mostert, Brown has extended his championship lead back to 189 points, with the Repco Bathurst 1000 next in the crosshairs for the 26-car field.

Brown and Pye inherited the crew that won the Bathurst 1000 last year with Shane van Gisbergen and Richie Stanaway, making them firm favourites to contend for the win at the Mountain.
Festivities at the 2024 Repco Bathurst 1000 kick off on Wednesday with the Repco Bathurst 1000 Street Party from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Russell Street in Bathurst CBD.
The Street Party will feature a Supercars Track to Town, all-driver signing session, Pirtek Pit Stop Challenge Finals, and more as part of a live TV program broadcast on Foxtel.
