Shane van Gisbergen led Trackhouse Racing with a seventh-place finish in the Bank of America 400 NASCAR Cup Series race at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway on Sunday afternoon. Teammates Ross Chastain placed 16th, and Connor Zilisch finished 21st.
“I’m glad the organization has gotten better,” said SVG. “Having Ross (Chastain) up there too, we’ve had too many days of running 30th as a team, so it was good that we’ve made some progress.
“This #97 SuperFile Chevrolet team has had two solid weekends in a row and we can be proud of that. We changed a lot on our cars, trying to understand them and get them better.
“It’s really nice to see some progress. Charlotte (Motor Speedway) seems to suit us. We seem to have a good base setup for this track.”
Van Gisbergen started 10th for the 400-mile race, after the lineup was set by the metric due to inclement weather on Saturday.
From the start, van Gisbergen battled a tight-handling SuperFile Chevrolet as he fought to maintain his position and dropped to 14th before the competition caution flew on lap 35 and the No. 97 team came to pit road for service.
The Kiwi continued to struggle with the handling of his Chevrolet and finished Stage 1, 17th and lined up for the second stage. Despite still struggling with the handling, he was able to work his way forward and finished the stage 12th.
At the stage break, the #97 team came to pit road for adjustments that seemed to benefit van Gisbergen and his Chevrolet. He then battled inside the top 10 the entire stage and scored a seventh-place finish in the final rundown.
The NASCAR Cup Series will return to action Sunday, October 18 for the Freeway Insurance 500 at Phoenix (Ariz.) Raceway.
