New Zealand driver Shane van Gisbergen will be looking to move closer to his maiden Supercars Championship at this weekend’s ITM Auckland SuperSprint.
Van Gisbergen heads to the penultimate event for 2017 at Pukekohe Park Raceway with a 148-point lead over teammate Jamie Whincup.
A strong showing this weekend could just about seal the title for van Gisbergen ahead of the season finale in Sydney next month.
It would be Van Gisbergen’s first Championship win and he would become the first Kiwi driver to win the title since Jim Richards in 1991.
It promises to be an epic battle this weekend as Whincup looks to spoil van Gisbergen’s homecoming and set himself up for an unprecedented seventh title.
The action at the ITM Auckland SuperSprint will begin tomorrow with three practice sessions. Saturday will see two 35-lap, 100km races with a further two 100km races on Sunday.
Supercars will provide daily updates, photos and video news releases from today, Thursday November 3, including the Driver’s Parade in Auckland and interviews with Van Gisbergen and Whincup.
