Shane van Gisbergen has won both Repco Supercars Championship races (7 & 8) at the Beaurepaires Melbourne 400 on Saturday, extending his lead to 186 points over Anton De Pasquale.
Van Gisbergen, who raced from 23rd to third on Friday (Race 6), took his first victory at the Albert Park circuit in Melbourne since 2016 and the defending Supercars Champion’s 59th career win.
“The car was a jet today,” commented van Gisbergen. “Our pace wasn’t so much there with the soft tyres, but we were so quick on the hard tyres. I’ve never had such good pace, so that’s very cool.

“The track is really cool to race on as well, and there’s some fun places to pass. You can do some bombs, or some switch-backs, but overall the track is awesome to have some cool battles on.
“I guess some of the drivers further down are having some dramas which is a shame because there seemed to be a few crashes today, but up the front it’s really good racing. I’m really looking forward to the race tomorrow and hopefully cap off a good week for the team.”
The Beaurepaires Melbourne 400 will conclude with Race 9 on Sunday.
