Visa Cash App Racing Bull’s Liam Lawson will start 11th for this weekend’s 2026 Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, while teammate Arvid Lindblad will be 15th on the grid. Lawson set the 12th fastest qualifying time in Q2, not making it through to Q3. However, with ninth quickest Carlos Sainz (Williams) receiving a five-place grid penalty for a yellow-flag infringement, Lawson moves up to 11th.
“We have honestly been slow this weekend,” commented Lawson. “We did make a step up for quali which was good.
“Honestly the lap was really good up until T16 but we have had different wind every single lap this weekend. I had no toe and couldn’t get one.
“I tried to start semi-close to Max but his out lap too quick and he is also quicker than us so by the end of the lap he had pulled away so I was basically just punching a whole in the air.
“Super frustrating when you’re watching the delta just climb and you lose all the time you’re made up. That is the difference between making it through and not making it.”
George Russell took pole position ahead of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc with McLaren’s Oscar Piastri third. Current overall points leader Kimi Antonelli crashed in Q1 and will start from grid #16.
