Keep an eye on Gabriel Bortoleto

He is touted as the next best Brazilian F1 driver and in 2025 we will now see him behind the wheel for Kick Sauber F1 team.  This lad has talent and will join F1 rookies Liam Lawson (RB – to be confirmed), Oliver Bearman (Haas F1), Andrea Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes F1) and maybe Franco Colapinto next season.

Bortoleto has been on a fast track to the top category having won the 2023 FIA Formula 3 Championship in his rookie year and is currently leading the 2024 FIA Formula 2 Championship, also in his rookie year.

With two rounds to go in the F2 season, the 20-year-old has a narrow lead over Isack Hadjar, just 4.5-points between them with Zane Maloney in third, 30-points further back.  Note that Hadjar is predicted to take Liam Lawson’s seat at Visa Cash App RB Formula One Team if the Kiwi is promoted as Max Verstappen’s teammate at Oracle Red Bull Racing in 2025.

Gabriel Bortoleto (Invicta Racing) currently leads the 2024 FIA Formula 2 Championship

Bortoleto has only won two of the 24 races so far this season.  However, it has been his consistency that has put him at the top of the points table, finishing on the podium five times, in the top five 12 times, with two pole positions and two fastest laps.

He is managed by Fernando Alonso’s driver management agency A14 and will join Nico Hulkenberg at Kick Sauber which will become the fully-fledged Audi factory team in 2026.

2025 has the potential to be an exciting year with a new wave of drivers joining the F1 grid.

Two rounds remain on the 14-event F2 calendar with the penultimate round in Qatar 30 Nov- 1 Dec and the finale at Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi 7-8 December 2024.
