Blistering practice times at Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia round in Sydney

Fast times have been set as the team’s of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS get set for an epic three-hour endurance race tomorrow evening.

To be held under lights of the Sydney Motorsport Park circuit, the three-hour enduro will make up the second and final round of the endurance championship.

The first practice session saw Will Brown and Brad Schumacher top the overall time sheets.

Finishing Practice 1 with an impressive lap time of 1:25.9856s, the Shaw & Partners / Kelso Electric Auto R8 LMS punched out a session-high 33 laps – edging out Tigani Motorsport’s Jayden Ojeda and Paul Lucchitti by 0.7s.

Rounding out the session’s top three for the class was Chaz Mostert and Liam Talbot, with the Arise Racing GT stars just over one and a half tenths slower than the Realta Mercedes AMG GT3 of Ojeda/Lucchitti.

Posting the fastest lap in the AM class was Ram Motorsport’s Garth Walden and Michael Sheargold after the pair went eighth fastest overall. Just 0.3s separated the GWR Australia-prepared Mercedes AMG GT3 from the next best AM entry of Sergio Pires and Michael Zalloua.

Highlighting the closeness of competition within the Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia Powered by AWS field – there were plenty of close battles in Practice.

Towards the top of the overall time sheets, just 0.2s separated the fourth placed Mercedes AMG GT3 of Declan Fraser and Peter Hackett, the second Arise Racing GT Ferrari 296 GT3 of Jaxon Evans and Elliott Schutte and Grove Racing’s Brenton and Stephen Grove, while a pair of Pro Am entries, in the returning Alex Peroni and Mark Rosser and Kiwi stars Brendon Leitch and Tim Miles split the two fastest AM drivers.

In the second practice session, Mostert and Talbot ended up on top, with the Arise Racing GT stars topping the session.

The Ferrari pair’s 1:26.4654s just under 0.3s faster the next best ranked duo Ojeda/Lucchitti.

The Tigani Motorsport Mercedes ended the session splitting the two Ferraris, with Jaxon Evans and Elliott Schutte just one and a half tenths off Lucchitti.

In the Am class, Sergio Pires and Marcel Zalloua went fastest for the session, posting a 1:29.0143 in their Valmont Racing / Tigani Motorsport Audi R8 LMS Evo 11 to edge out the Mercedes AMG GT3 EVO of Ram Motorsport’s Garth Walden and Michael Sheargold.

The Championship now turns its attention to a super Saturday at Sydney Motorsport Park, with qualifying, Superpole and the highly anticipated three-hour endurance race making up tomorrow’s activity.
