Clean sweep for Will Bamber’s TR3 Racing at Watkins Glen

TR3 Racing’s pair of Kiwi Will Bamber and Elias De La Torre made a clean sweep of the latest Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America (Pro category) at Watkins Glen International circuit last weekend.

“We scored maximum points with pole positions and victories in both races,” commented Bamber.  “This was a massive result for us—our first wins of the year, and my first in North America.

“Prior to the weekend, we had a very productive two-day test. Hankook Tire introduced a new tire for the Watkins Glen event, so we had a lot to cover, with expected improvements in performance and reduced wear.  Fortunately, we found all of that to be true and settled on a solid balance that carried into race weekend—although the conditions did catch us out with a significant shift in car balance from the test to the races.

“Qualifying was crucial, and we managed to secure pole for both races. The early morning temperatures made the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Huracán EVO2 feel incredible—running flat through the Esses in those conditions and watching the delta drop on the dash is an amazing feeling.

Bamber started the opening Race 1 settling into second place.

“It was important to stay in touch with the leader, looking after tires, and maximizing any opportunity during the pit stop. By the time of the pit stop, the No.1 car was leading by just over 3 seconds, so I knew we could still catch them.

“We had a perfect pitstop while our main championship rival was unfortunately issued with a drive-through penalty for shorting their stop. After a late restart, Elias brought the car home for our first win of the season!”

An early race caution put most of the second 50-minute race of the weekend under slow speed, with limited green-flag running before the pit stop window opened. De La Torre leapt out to a significant lead in the No. 29 TR3 Racing.  After a smooth pit stop, Bamber controlled the remainder of the race to win by 7.936 seconds.

“For me it just goes down to this team, TR3 and everybody involved in the organization have been working so hard,” said Bamber.  “This young kid (Elias De La Torre) here has got a huge future. He’s absolutely killed the start and restart too (today). For us starting out this year, we worked together so well; I was his engineer last year, which is pretty cool. And now we’re driving together, so very special for us. We’re just going from strength to strength.”

“We’ve had great consistent driving; we’ve kept pace and managed it well,” said Elias De La Torre. “We still have three race weekends to go and to focus on, lots to build on, but I think we have the team to do it.”

The fourth round of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo takes place at Road America in Wisconsin, July 31-August 3, 2025.
