Canterbury Car Club were the big winners at the Ratec Motorsport Inc. Leeston Autocross run in windy conditions on Saturday (10th April).
Led by John Rathgen (Pulsar GTi-R) (main picture) ably supported by Ben Gill (WRX) in second, Steve Hall (Yaris GR) fourth, Tony Chapman (Swift Sport) in eighth and Avalon Biddle (WRX) 17th. The Club scored 75-points to now trail the Autosport Club by just 41-point in the race to win the Dave McCahon Canterbury Interclub Trophy for 2021.
With inclement weather in the morning keeping many from attending, there were 20 competitors which was depleted by two more when a Starlet suffered early mechanical issues preventing two Autosport members from getting a start.
With super slippery conditions after the early rain, there was an advantage to those who got the driest runs but Rathgen, Gill and Byron Kelsall (Subaru WRX) of Ratec Motorsport drew away from the chasing pack as the day progressed.
There were three different courses on the large paddock (loaned to the club by a generous Leeston farmer) with the best of two-runs at each course being counted towards the final results.
