West Auckland’s Clint Cunningham is looking for a solid run to finish of his 2015 season at the final round of the Brian Green Property Group New Zealand Rally Championship, the Trusthouse Racetech Rally Wairarapa, on October 3.

Cunningham has endured a tough first season in his RCK Contractors Mitsubishi Evo Proto, but a new team structure prior to the non-championship Rally of the North bought encouraging results, with only a time penalty preventing Cunningham from taking the runner up spot.

A new event format for the event sees the morning stages based closer to Palmerston North on stages which Cunningham is not so familiar, before moving to the more traditional Wairarapa roads in the afternoon, which Cunningham knows well.

With that format in mind, Cunningham will look to make a conservative start on the early stages, before increasing the pace in the afternoon, with a priority on getting himself and co-driver Glenn Goldring to the finish of the event.

“After the season we’ve had, I just really, really want to get to the finish. Aside from a couple of punctures, we had a clean run at Paihia which was really encouraging,” says Cunningham. “It would be great for everyone in the team if we can make it to the finish.”

Trusthouse Racetech Rally Wairarapa runs on October 3, starting from the small Manawatu township of Pohangina from 7.40am, taking on a total of eight special stages totalling 155.9 kilometres before the finish in Masterton from 3.55pm.
