The Solberg name looks almost certain to return to Rally New Zealand this year, with young star, Oliver, set to feature on the entry list.
The son of Petter Solberg drove brilliantly at Rally Sweden in a factory-prepared Skoda Fabia R5 evo, where he finished fifth in the WRC3 category.
Speaking to Talk Motorsport in Sweden, Solberg’s former rally driving mother, Pernilla, said the family were looking forward to returning to New Zealand.
“We had a wonderful family holiday there when Petter last competed in the rally in 2012, and we all have some incredible memories of New Zealand,” she said.
“Returning with Oliver for this year’s rally will be one of the season highlights.”
Oliver Solberg is one of a string of young guns currently making their name in the WRC, headed by the flying Kalle Rovanpera.
In only his first season in a World Rally Car, the 19-year old took a brilliant third place in Sweden, ousting six-time World Champion, Sebastien Ogier, in a fight over the final Power Stage.
Rally New Zealand may be still over six months away, but it’s already shaping up as a classic event not to be missed.
