Talkmotorsport’s roving reporter Lance Hastie is currently at Pikes Peak in Colorado USA attending the annual Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (PPIHC), brought to you by Gran Turismo, also known as The Race to the Clouds.

There he caught up with Travis Pastrana, an American professional motorsports competitor and stunt performer.  Pastrana has won championships and X Games gold medals in several events, including supercross, motocross, freestyle motocross, and rally racing.

He runs a show called Nitro Circus, and previously competed in the NASCAR Nationwide Series for Roush Fenway Racing and the Global RallyCross Championship for Subaru Rally Team USA.

Why Pikes Peak?

“Why not? It is a really awesome deal I have with Yokohama to get them into the action sports and that younger demographic come to Nitro Circus. There are a lot of us at Nitro Circus that love to drive – and drive everything we can.

“Nitro is all about entertainment and Yokohama want to do fun races that drivers really enjoy. They came to me and asked what was on my bucket list or events I really wanted to do and enjoy. I said we are doing One Lap of America, 24hours of Lemons and Pikes Peak so count me in for those three – they said okay. I thought this was going to be sweet.

“They have a deal with Porsche – this is the perfect vehicle to re-learn the road – it just feels like a Go-Kart – just so much fun.

“Eventually I’d like to come up here with a car that would be competitive with the Loeb run, and while not saying I could win it, it would be good to try.

“On the fun scale: It is high up there. Right now I am learning road and that is a little scary. While I’ve played the video games it is different – a couple of the corners that you thought are wide open aren’t and a couple corners that you thought weren’t, are.

It is pretty close though – it is surprisingly accurate.”
