Kiwi driver Callum Hedge has taken two wins at the second round of the 2019 Australia Formula Ford Championship held at Queensland Raceway over the weekend.
The opening race was in wet conditions which saw Hedge build a comfortable six-second margin over pole-sitter Cody Burcher with Tom Sargent third ahead of Liam Mclellan and Zac Soutar.

The second race of the weekend saw an enthralling race-long battle for the lead with Hedge coming out on top from Soutar and Sargent. Hedge, Soutar and Sargent swapped the lead several times throughout the race as neither could build a good enough gap to escape the tow down QR’s long straights.
Sargent took Hedge into Turn 1 mid-way through the race, before Soutar joined the party and took the lead into Turn 3 with two laps to run. Hedge regained the lead immediately with an inside move at Turn 4 and was never headed from there.
A dramatic final race saw Soutar win and take the round after Hedge and Sargent clashed, with Hedge failing to finish. This gave Soutar the overall round victory.
Soutar led early after an over-and-under move on Hedge into Turn 2 off the rolling start. As the field exited Turn 6 at the end of the first lap, series leader Callum Hedge and second-placed Tom Sargent Motorsport collided. The incident remains under investigation.
The third round takes place at Winton Raceway in a fortnight’s time in support of the Supercars championship Truck Assist Winton SuperSprint.
