Triple Eight Race Engineering’s Broc Feeney has steered clear of a wild opening race of the Melbourne SuperSprint, dominating today’s race at the Australian Grand Prix.
It was a near flawless drive from the 22-year old Gold Coaster, whose only “moment” came when he hit a duck around the midway point of the 19-lap race.
“Today was good,” said Feeney. “Obviously, it was pretty important to get the start, and from there, just tried to manage the race out front. The safety car was good in the middle. It gives everyone a bit of a reset and a chance to cool your tires down and go again.
“I had one really eventful thing happen mid-race. I’m not sure if they show it on TV. Unfortunately, there was some animals on the track, but apart from that it was a good and smooth sailing race.”
In Race 4 of the 2025 Supercars season, Feeney’s teammate Will Brown concluded a 1-2 finish for the Red Bull Ampol Chevrolet Camaros, while Canberra’s Cameron Hill finished third to score his maiden Supercars podium.
But it was chaos behind the top three, with numerous bumps and spins featuring a bruising first 105-kilometre race of the weekend.
Dick Johnson Racing’s Brodie Kostecki finished fourth for the second race in a row, while sophomore Kiwi Ryan Wood rounded out the top five in an impressive drive.
Championship leader Cam Waters survived the carnage to storm through the field, recovering from a disastrous 22nd on the grid to finish sixth. The Mildura native’s championship lead now sits at 45 points over Brown.
The race’s lone Safety Car came out when Blanchard Racing Team’s Aaron Cameron – making his first solo Supercars start after replacing Aaron Love earlier this week – was spun into the gravel at Turn 3 in a collision with Macauley Jones.
Supercars returns to action on Friday for its second race of the weekend, another 19-lap contest beginning at 2:50 p.m. AEDT.
With no compulsory pit stops, drivers expect the same style of racing to continue throughout the weekend.
Feeney – whose win today was his fourth at Albert Park – will start from pole, with Hill starting second in his first front row start.
