Importance of Holden brand hits Bathurst winner van Gisbergen

Shane van Gisbergen’s winning of his second Repco Bathurst 1000 race in the weekend has had a significant impact on the current Repco Supercars champion.  Along with co-driver and multiple Bathurst winner, Garth Tander, the pairing held off a late charge by second placed Chaz Mostert to seal another win for the pairing.

“It still hasn’t sunk in,” commented van Gisbergen.  “To compare our win in 2020, it’s another farewell to Holden, but to have the fans here this time and share it with them is extra special.

“This week especially, I learnt a lot about how much the Holden brand means to so many people and to represent it like we do, it’s a privilege to add to the tally of Holden wins.”

It’s van Gisbergen’s second Bathurst win, Garth Tander’s fifth and their Triple Eight Team’s ninth at Mount Panorama.

“It’s hard to put into words but it’s pretty cool.”

With the final year of the Holden brand as the category moves to the ne Gen3 chassis and the General Motors brand, it will be a fond farewell at the end of season round in Adelaide.

“I think Adelaide is going to be a massive farewell for the brand because it’s the home of Holden, so hopefully we can have a good finish there as well, but today was epic.

” It would have been nice to have wrapped up the championship today but we can look forward to Gold Coast and hopefully celebrate there.”
