Kostecki eyes Albert Park hat trick on Saturday at AusGP

2023 Supercars champion Brodie Kostecki is eyeing a third win from three races today, after taking a forceful victory in yesterday’s Supercars race at the Melbourne SuperSprint.

Supercars contests four sprint races this weekend at Albert Park in support of the Formula One Australian Grand Prix.

After winning Thursday’s race from pole, Kostecki started second yesterday, and made a decisive pass on pole sitter Matt Payne at Turn 11 on Lap 5 and never looked back in the 19-lap race to make it two-from-two.

Kostecki leads the standings for the Larry Perkins Trophy, which he won in 2023 for scoring the most points across the Supercars event at Albert Park.

23-year old Payne was visibly frustrated after giving up Friday’s win. The Aucklander now leads the overall drivers’ championship, is yet to finish outside the top 4 in 2026, but is also yet to score a race win.

He will have another chance this afternoon as Supercars bookends on-track action at the Australian Grand Prix.

The Championship will hold qualifying for Saturday and Sunday’s races from 9:00 a.m. AEDT today.

Race 6 of the 2026 Supercars season then begins at 5:35 p.m. AEDT today, a 19-lap, 105-kilometre sprint.

Fans can meet the Supercars field this morning at an all-driver signing session from 10:30 a.m., located in front of Supercars team garages in the Motorsport Straight precinct behind the Senna Grandstand near Turn 14.

The driver who scores the most points across the Melbourne SuperSprint will be awarded the Larry Perkins Trophy, named for six-time Bathurst 1000 winner and former Formula One driver Larry Perkins.
