Young Kiwi driver Ryan Wood has claimed his first Supercars race victory with a close win in the first race of the day at the Bosch Power Tools Perth Super 440.  Having qualified fastest, Wood was always going to be hard to beat and that proved the case.

Wood made the most of his tyre strategy and passed teammate Chaz Mostert in the first stint to claim the lead, holding off Broc Feeney before beating Will Brown home in a tense run to the finish.

“It’s pretty emotional to be honest,” commented Wood.  “My parents have sacrificed a lot for me to be here and to realise my dream is unreal.  I can’t believe it.

“It’s pretty amazing to have ‘Murph’ (Greg Murphy) here the ting that he does behind the scenes for me I can’t speak highly enough.”

Mostert came home third ahead of Feeney, whose championship lead was slashed from 33 to 21 points by Brown.

Unfortunately for Wood in the second race of the day, while leading a charging pack behind him, his #2 Mobil 1 Truck Assist Ford suffered a left rear wheel failure on lap 22 taking him out of contention.

Feeney benefitted from the shock failure to take his fourth win of the season to extend his championship lead.

Will Brown denied Chaz Mostert to complete a Triple Eight one-two, with Mostert climbing from 11th to spare Walkinshaw Andretti United’s blushes. Waters held out Matt Payne for fourth, with Thomas Randle, Brodie Kostecki, Nick Percat, Anton De Pasquale and Will Davison rounding out the top 10.

Supercars action resumes in Perth on Sunday with Boost Mobile Qualifying at 11:00am local/1:00pm AEST, which sets the running order for the Boost Mobile Top Ten Shootout at 1:05pm local/3:05pm AEST. The weekend concludes with Race 16 at 3:15pm local/5:15pm AEST.
