Supercars’ race debut on the South Island of New Zealand is just one day away. Teams and drivers are completing final preparations today at Ruapuna Raceway, before racing gets underway tomorrow at the venue’s inaugural Supercars event.
Following the cancellation of Sunday’s race in Taupō last weekend due to Cyclone Vaianu, Supercars has added a race to tomorrow’s action in Christchurch.
Supercars will hold one practice from 9:35 a.m. NZST, with qualifying at 2:15 p.m., and Race 10 of the 2026 season beginning at 4:35 p.m.
Wellington Toyota driver Ryan Wood comes in with the hot hand after scoring his first win on home soil this past weekend in Taupō.
After winning the first race in Taupō last weekend, Perth’s Brodie Kostecki comes into the weekend leading the championship in the famous Dick Johnson Racing #17 Ford.
And while it is the first-ever Supercars race in Christchurch, tomorrow’s race will be the 500th in the career of 2017 Bathurst 1000 winner David Reynolds.
The driver who scores the most points across the Taupō and Christchurch events will be awarded the Jason Richards Memorial Trophy, named for beloved Kiwi driver Jason Richards who succumbed to cancer in 2011.
Kiwi Ryan Wood currently leads Broc Feeney in the battle for the JR Trophy, with four races to go to determine this year’s winner.
