Payne in pole position to win Sprint Cup

Supercars is back on-track tomorrow as the Century Batteries Ipswich Super 440 gets underway at Queensland Raceway.

The ninth and final event of the Repco Sprint Cup will see the championship leader at the end of this weekend awarded an automatic entry to the Supercars Finals.

The top 10 drivers following October’s Bathurst 1000 will advance to the Finals for a three-round knockout battle to win the 2026 Repco Supercars Championship.

Auckland’s Matt Payne is poised to take Sprint Cup honours, heading into the weekend 118 points ahead of Queenslander Broc Feeney in the standings.

The Kiwi scored two wins from three races earlier this month in Perth, but admits his team will need to have a better showing this year in Ipswich in order to keep its momentum going.

Meanwhile, Gold Coast-based James Golding is locked in a scrappy battle for the 10th and final spot in the Finals, with three rounds to go until the all-important cut off.

Golding – who moved to Blanchard Racing Team this year – sits 11th in the standings and just 20 points outside the 10 heading into this weekend.

On-track action at the Century Batteries Ipswich Super 440 begins Friday, with two 120-kilometre Supercars races on Saturday and one 200-kilometre race on Sunday.
