Randle, Feeney split Saturday poles in wild Tasmania Supercars qualifying

Supercars action is underway on Saturday in Tasmania, with two frantic qualifying sessions in the books for today’s racing at the Snowy River Caravans Tasmania Super440.

There will be two 120-kilometre Supercars races today at Symmons Plains Raceway – one at 12:05 p.m. AEST and the other at 3:55 p.m.

Boost Mobile Qualifying this morning saw plenty of action and mixed grids as drivers tried to find the limit on the shortest circuit on the calendar.

Thomas Randle snared pole for today’s first race by 0.008 of a second from Broc Feeney in a battle between powerhouses Tickford Racing and Triple Eight Race Engineering.

It is Randle first pole since last year at the same venue, and third of his career.

Randle’s teammate Cam Waters qualified third ahead of Feeney’s stablemate Will Brown in fourth, seeing the two teams lock out the first two rows.

Several drivers off track on the cool Saturday morning, with Cooper Murray bringing out a brief red flag amidst other drivers spinning and running off track.

Feeney flipped the script in Race 12 qualifying, beating Randle to the top spot for his fifth pole of 2025, most of all drivers.

The result will see Feeney start on pole for his 100th career Supercars start.

James Golding, Macauley Jones, and Bryce Fullwood rounded out a very mixed top five on a morning where many of the usual front runners struggled.

It was a rough morning for two-time Bathurst 1000 winner Chaz Mostert, who only managed qualifying positions of 19th and 12th for today’s races.

Reigning Bathurst 1000 winner Brodie Kostecki was also a story this morning, the West Australian penalised four spots in Race 11 qualifying for spinning Kiwi Ryan Wood, knocking him from fifth to ninth in the first qualifying session.

The 2023 champion then could only muster 21st in Race 12 qualifying, setting up a day of hard work for the 27-year old this afternoon.

New Zealander Matt Payne, who dominated last month’s round in Taupō, will start last for Race 11, only managing to improve to 11th for Race 12.

Race 11 from the Snowy River Caravans Tasmania Super440 begins at 12:05 p.m. AEST, followed by Race 12 at 3:55 p.m.

Both races will be 50 laps, 120 kilometres in length, and will see teams required to make one pit stop in each race.
