‘Texas is a tough track’ – van Gisbergen

Shane van Gisbergen will make his second NASCAR Cup Series start at the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, competing in the Würth 400 presented by LIQUI MOLY this weekend. Last season, van Gisbergen posted a 22nd-place finish, his first time at the 1.5-mile track.

“Texas is a tough track, but I’m looking forward to getting better at it as the weekend goes on,” commented SVG. “It’s been tough for me in the past in the O’Reilly car and Cup car, so our focus has just been trying to see where we can improve from last year and what will make us the most competitive.”

Van Gisbergen will pilot the iconic SuperFile colors for the fourth time this season. The No. 97 Chevrolet last carried the colors at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway on March 29, where van Gisbergen secured an 11th-place finish, his best at the 0.52-mile track.

“Texas is difficult because one end of the track is so different from the other end. You have to compromise a little bit on set up. But trying to get the most out of your car every lap is important, so practice will be all about learning and getting the best feel for the car before the race.”

He enters this weekend’s race 19th in the Cup Series driver standings and is just 31-points behind 16th-place, the last spot in The Chase.
