The Repco Supercars Championship has officially arrived in Townsville, with over a dozen transporters convoying into North Queensland’s largest city today as festivities for the 2024 NTI Townsville 500 officially get underway.
Carrying over tens of millions of dollars’ worth of Supercars and equipment, the transporter convoy traversed around iconic Castle Hill and past throngs of fans at Central Park en route to Reid Park street circuit, where they will park up for this weekend’s event.
2017 Bathurst 1000 winner David Reynolds – who today celebrates his 39th birthday – was on site for the parade, joined by Aaron Harper MP, Member for Thuringowa, and Townsville 500 event manager Matt Ramsden.
Festivities in Townsville continue tomorrow with Track to Town, where at 4:45pm AEST all 24 Supercars will drive from Reid Park to Jezzine Barracks for an all-driver signing session, a Townsville first.
Fans are encouraged to line the streets and head to Jezzine Barracks for the free event, where they can get up close with all the stars and cars of the Repco Supercars Championship before they hit the track on Friday.
On-track action at the NTI Townsville 500 begins on Friday with racing from Supercars, the Dunlop Series, Porsche Michelin Sprint Cup, and more competing across July 5-7.
Numerous off-track attractions will also be on site, with dodgem cars, helicopter tours, ferris wheel, new-for-2024 Torque Alley car show, and more set to entertain fans of all ages throughout the weekend.
Saturday night will see Tones & I, G Flip, and Cyril light up the stage and a drone show light up the night sky as part of Townsville’s largest annual sporting event soars to new heights in 2024.
