Brendon Hartley has been given a 6/10 by Autosport.com in their Mexican Grand Prix driver ratings. In its post-Grand Prix analysis, Autosport.com gives a rating and explanation for each F1 driver and in turn gives readers an opportunity to also rate each driver.

In giving Hartley a 6/10, the website explains…
“Another one of those weekends where Hartley’s performance was good, but the results don’t quite show that. A slightly scruffy Q2 lap denied him a possible Q3 shot, then locking up at the first corner forced an early stop. He was also hit with a penalty for crowding Ocon, which cost him two places after he crossed the line. He also picked up damage in the incident. Having the pace for points is one thing, but those two mistakes cost him dearly.”

Hartley’s team mate Pierre Gasly was given a high 9/10…
“A back-of-the-grid penalty for engine component changes meant Gasly didn’t have a proper crack at qualifying, and he was 0.146s slower than Hartley in Q1 after losing some time behind Stroll on his lap. But he drove a very good race, pitting very early after a short stint on hypersofts and then having to make a second stop later. In a marginal points situation, he made the difference by passing Ocon in a battle that at one stage became fraught and led to him going off.”

No driver was given the perfect 10/10 with winner Max Verstappen receiving a score of 9/10….
“A faultless drive in the race, showing killer instinct when he needed it to make sure of the lead at the start and then discipline and control for the rest of the afternoon. The fact Verstappen was able to build more than a pitstop’s lead over Ricciardo showed how strong he was. The one downside is that, despite the braking problems, he should have had pole. And he knew it.”
