BMW will start from the front of the 2026 24 Hours of Le Mans field after the #38 Cadillac Hertz Team Jota, which set the fastest lap in the Hyperpole 2 qualifying session, was penalised due to a procedural error when leaving the pit lane, meaning their fastest lap was deleted.
Bamber’s teammate, Jack Aitken, in the #38 Cadillac Hertz Team JOTA entry claimed a 3m22.559s lap to go just 0.005s faster than Dries Vanthoor’s 3m22.564s in the #15 BMW M Team WRT car. However, it was the BMW that would inherit pole after the Brit was stripped of his best lap time due to having left the working lane to join the fast lane at the beginning of the session before being authorised to do so.
The #38 Cadillac V-Series.R dropped down the classification to tenth due to the penalty, promoting the #15 BMW M Hybrid V8 that Vanthoor shares with Kevin Magnussen and Raffaele Marciello to pole.
