The Mexican Grand Prix has not been favourable for Visa Cash App Racing Bulls driver Liam Lawson. The first time in 2024 he finished 16th and in 2025 retired out of the race. This weekend starts with no favours for Lawson as FIA F2 driver Nikola Tsolov takes over his seat for the first practice session on Friday.

It’s reported that former Red Bull Junior Development Program advisor Helmut Marko believes that Racing Bulls should favour Nikola Tsolov over Liam Lawson when it settles its 2027 driver line up. Although Marko was instrumental in Lawson becoming a Red Bull Junior Development Driver, it is easy to say from the sideline, a different matter for those that actually have investment in both drivers.

Given Tsolov’s form of late, it makes no sense to insert him full-time into Lawson’s F1 seat in 2027. He is no Schumacher or Verstappen, so what is there to gain?

Lawson has scored points in 13 of the 18 Grand Prix held so far this year. While this is financially beneficial for his team, it holds him in good stead for the future. In other words, it increases his value and worth to a Formula One team. So why drop him when you could sell him?

Essentially there is no one buyers for 2027, the seats are pretty much taken.

Let’s continue to expect that Lawson’s seat is safe for 2027 and Tsolov will head to Japan to compete in the Super Formula Series which all makes sense.
