Bloxsom wins bizarre Bathurst race

Lachlan Bloxsom has claimed his maiden Porsche Equity-One Carrera Cup Australia win with victory in race two of the weekend at Mount Panorama.

In his 59th career start, the McElrea Racing driver was able to hold on from David Russell and Harri Jones – following a restart due to a start procedure error.

The race resumed with two laps to go and Bloxsom built up a one second lead over the remaining laps to claim the breakthrough win.

It’s been a busy period for Bloxsom who has just returned to Australia after competing in Porsche Carrera Cup North America at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Porsche Carrera Cup Japan at Fuji Speedway.

For the first time this season, Matt Slavin secured the race win in Pro-Am.

Bathurst has been kind to the Victorian, his last win came in race three at Mount Panorama last year.

Matt Belford’s consistent weekend continued with a second place to back up his third in race one, while Jacque Jarjo completed the top three.

The final race of the weekend is scheduled to start at 9:30am AEDT on Sunday.

Harri Jones won Race 1

Jones’ winning streak continues (Race 1)

Harri Jones has secured his fifth win in a row as he dominated the first race at Mount Panorama for Round 5 of Porsche Equity-One Carrera Cup Australia. Kiwi drivers Clay Osborne and Tom Bewley finished 12th and DNF in Race 1.

The two-time champion started from first after pole winner Jake Santalucia withdrew from the remainder of the weekend after damage sustained to his car late in qualifying on Thursday.

Jones was strong off the start and opened a 0.7 second lead by the end of the opening lap.

His championship challenger Clay Osborne tagged the wall on lap two heading into Reid Park, he got away with it but could only manage 12th by races end.

The safety car was deployed with six minutes remaining for a kangaroo on track.

Jones was never challenged on the restart as he claimed his 32nd career win and extended his championship lead.

In his 60th race start, Marcos Flack finished second after a tough opening few laps.

The Sonic Racing driver had to fend off a large amount of cars, but once he settled into a rhythm he was able to pull away.

David Russell finished third after starting down in fifth while Aaron Love worked his way through the field to finish in fourth.

Love made a double overtake at the end of lap two exiting the final corner, marking a brilliant drive from eighth on the grid.

Max Geoghegan had to be defensive late in the race to hold onto a top 5 finish, his best result in Carrera Cup Australia.

Dylan O’Keeffe was sixth, followed by Lockie Bloxsom, Daniel Quimby, Angelo Mouzouris and Tom McLennan.

In Pro-Am Jacque Jarjo clinched his 4th career win.

Jarjo started third in class but got a great jump off the line and quickly pulled away from his nearest competitors.

Matt Slavin, who started off the pole position in class, would cross the line in second while Matt Belford held on for third over Rodney Jane.
