In need of a live fix of motorsport this weekend?  There are two speedway options available in South Dakota this weekend in a US state that is yet to issue a stay-at-home order for its residents.

Park Jefferson Speedway has a sold out sign at the gate for Saturday’s event while there are a few tickets left for New Raceway Park’s for Sunday.

It’s the opening race of the 2020 season with the Open Wheel Nationals at Park Jefferson Speedway with special guidelines applying for the event.  With a seating capacity of 4,000, organisers have restricted numbers to 700 specially allocation seats while requesting that all attendees bring protective gear with them.  Temperature checks will take place, hand sanitiser available and a cashless food and beverage service provided with social distancing taking place in the queues.

410 Sprint cars and IMCA modifieds are expected to compete.

It is reported that the Union County Sheriff’s Department do not intend to take any legal action and that the Republican state governor Kristi Noem prefers fans not to attend either event but will not stop racing from taking place.

There have been approximately 1,800 confirmed Covid-19 cases in South Dakota with eight deaths.
