Murphy back for 2025 George Begg Festival

One of the biggest names in modern-day motorsport in New Zealand is back for the George Begg Festival 2025.

Four-time Bathurst 1000 champion Greg Murphy is taking to the track again at next year’s festival, relishing the chance to be part of the event again after first attending in 2023.

Murphy is probably best known for his time and success in the Supercars Championship, Australia’s premier touring car series.

He won the prestigious Bathurst 1000 four times (1996, 1999, 2003, and 2004).

He’s looking forward to getting behind the wheel of some incredible cars at George Begg Festival 2025 – just exactly what they will be is still up for discussion.

“Last time I got to do some demos in a rally car, race a tractor and demo the ex-Denny Hulme M23 McLaren F1 car.”

Given the array of categories at next year’s event, Murphy expects a wide variety of vehicles both old and more modern to take to the track at Teretonga.

“It’s an event that once people have experienced and know how good it is, it’ll become a regular in their calendars”, he said.

Looking forward to the George Begg Festival 2025, Murphy knows it will be even better than the last.

“There is something about the Southland community that just makes the event.”

“The hospitality is amazing. The development of the central city district that has been going on down there is fantastic. It’s well worth coming down to.”

“Mix that in with a bit of racing and all the other off track activities – it’s well worth putting in your social calendar.”
