First blood to Canterbury Car Club in Interclub Series

The Canterbury Car Club has edged ahead in the race to win the coveted 2022 Dave McCahan Canterbury Interclub Trophy at the Ratec Motorsport Inc. Leeston Autocross on Saturday (2nd April).

Even with Ratec’s Byron Kelsall (Subaru WRX) winning the round to claim the coveted 20-points, the Canterbury Car Club claimed first blood with second placed Steve Hall (Yaris GR), third placed John Rathgen (Pulsar GTi-R) ably supported by Ben Gill (WRX) 6th, Adrian Harris (Moke) 8th and Tony Chapman (Swift Sport) in 10th, scoring a total of 76 points.

The Ratec team of Kelsall, Allan Coker (GR Yaris) 7th, Dwight Parlane (WRX) 11th, Nathan Burrowes (Legacy) 12th and Bruce McArthur (Corolla) 19th earned 57-points. Autosport Club and Ashburton Car Club scoring 38 and 36-points respectively.

Kelsall excelled in the early slippery conditions grabbing a more than 4-second lead over Daniel Males (Mini) from the Ashburton Car Club with Rathgen in third and Hall in fourth. After the second course Hall had moved into second and was closing the gap on the leader. It was all on for the third course but Kelsall held on with Hall and Rathgen taking the other podium places.

The Ratec Motorsport club would like to acknowledge the generosity of the farmer who loaned them the large paddock to run the Motorsport NZ approved event.
